I am not a "furr mamma" and I don't have "furr babies".... so imagine my surprise when around the corner I walked and stooped down to pick up what I thought was a small dark bouncy ball next to the couch. Upon further inspection I realized that a) this was no bouncy ball b) it smelled c)I was holding it in my bare hand. Now, I have two small boys so I have pretty much seen it all with them...I have not however ever picked up a "excrement ball" with my bare hands. It wasn't one of those dainty little light pickups either... it was a full fledge all hands on" sort of grasps...considering that before I knew it was a "meadow muffin" I was already planning my next move which was to throw the ball into the toy bin. The next part was a blur. I'm not sure if I started gagging before or after I dropped it in surprise and instinctively picked it back up again (WITH MY BARE HAND) but I know for a fact that it took everything in me not to vomit in my living room.
The next order of business after a little Dial Antibacterial action was to figure out just who this "cow pie" belonged too. There was no naked baby running around...Lucas does tend to take off his diapers through his pants so I took a few seconds to double check him. He cleared the inspection. Next was Austin. I hate assuming anything with my kids (they prove you wrong TOO many times) so I checked him anyway...nothing.
At this exact moment I do remember sort of panicking that there was another (maybe bigger) hidden package somewhere in this house. So I began my search. I made the boys help me. I tried to not laugh as they yelled "POOOOP! Where are you POOOOOOP?" but I failed miserably. It was the funniest thing. As gross as the thought of actually finding something so their little scavenger hunt would reap some sort of "reward", I was actually enjoying watching them search for it!
Thank goodness we didn't find anything though, but I have made a new game. "poop find"
I was kidding about that last part. *gross*

When the weather gets cold, we get hot around here!
One word...Chili. I love it. I have the easiest recipe ever, but it sure is a hit around here. With a few ingredients that are probably in your pantry and a little bit of spare time, make this chili. It's pretty darn awesome if I do say so myself.
CHILI
1lb ground turkey or hamburger
1 14 oz can of diced tomatoes (at walmart, they have the "chili ready diced tomatoes, which I just found and love)
1 package of McCormick Chili Seasoning
1 can of pinto beans
1 can of kidney beans
1 medium onion, diced
fresh garlic (I never measure my garlic b/c I love it so much, just add what you think is good)
salt and pepper
Brown the onion, garlic, turkey, s/p in a skillet, drain. In a crockpot, add the meat, and the rest of the ingredients. Cook on low until you are ready to eat it. Although, since everything is cooked, you really don't have to even put it in the crockpot... You can just cook it on the stove. If you do cook it on the stove, once you add the remaining ingredients, let it simmer for about 10 minutes before serving it.
I love to top mine with a TON of cheese and sour cream and eat it with saltines or cornbread. This recipe is also fabulous over hot dogs, rice, french fries...whatever you love chili on :)

Leaving..on a jet plane...
My husband left this morning to go to Colorado for work. I can go into the details of why, but I don't want to confuse/bore anyone. He will be gone for seven days. That's a long time with no hubby. In fact, it's the longest we have been apart in the nine years we have been together. *sigh* I hate being at home alone at night. Gah, I would make a horrible single person lol. Every creak of the house, moan of the kids, every squeak of the one personless bed...it sends me into a frenzy in the middle of the night. One of my favorite shows is Ghost Hunters. I can't watch that when I am in the house alone at night. It creeps me out! Yes, I am in fact one of those people. I guess I think there is going to be a rabid ghost breaking into the house at night to steal my soul. Who knows...either way, it's creepy and I don't like it. So here's to a quick seven days of being one person down in this house.

This bread's BANANAS
Okay, okay...stupid title I know. That being said and out of the way, this banana bread is fabulous. It's not a secret, I don't bake. I haven't mastered that craft. This bread was super easy, very quick and turned out wonderful. It also helped me use up some bananas and buttermilk that were close to expiring. I got the recipe on the Betty Crocker website and I am definitely sure I will use it again.
BANANA BREAD
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups mashed very ripe bananas (3 to 4 medium)
1/2cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts, if desired
Move oven rack to low position so that tops of pans will be in center of oven. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottoms only of 2 loaf pans, 8 1/2x4 1/2x2 1/2 inches, or 1 loaf pan, 9x5x3 inches.
Mix sugar and butter in large bowl. Stir in eggs until well blended. Add bananas, buttermilk and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt just until moistened. Stir in nuts. Pour into pans.
8-inch loaves about 1 hour, 9-inch loaf about 1 1/4 hours, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Loosen sides of loaves from pans; remove from pans and place top side up on wire rack. Cool completely, about 2 hours, before slicing. Wrap tightly and store at room temperature up to 4 days, or refrigerate up to 10 days.

A thought
It was delerium I suspect that made me think that I have to be "supermom" all the time. In my mind though all I can think about is how many loads of laundry are in the garage or how many dishes are piled up around the sink. Yes, I may not have gotten to that bathroom (still) today or swept up the living -- I did however rescue a Little Person from the clutches of a vicious Fisher Price lion. I drove a pig and horse to school on a bus all the while singing "the wheels on the bus" and making a special toddler very happy. I am coming to the revelation that everything I think is so important is nothing compared to the job I do as a mother, a nurturer, a teacher and a friend to my two babies.
On a different note -- it has been declared that I am a horrible cook. Haha! Yeah, not really kidding. Recipe after recipe I try, my husband doesn't like....But AHA, I made empanadas last night and he really liked them! So I thought I would share the recipe with anyone who might read this blog =)
Empanadas:
1 lb hambuger meat
1 onion
1 clove of garlic
1 can of black beans
salsa
pizza crust or pie crust
Mexican or taco cheese
Preheat the oven to the temp on the pizza crust or pie crust. Cut up the onion and the garlic and add it to a skillet. Add the ground beef and brown. Toss in some salt and pepper to taste. Drain the meat mixture and add to a large mixing bowl. Open and drain the black beans and add those to the mix too. Pour on enough salsa to coat and then be very generous with the cheese. Mix it all together. Cut out circles from the pizza crust (I used a martini glass if you don't have a biscuit cutter). Add some mix to each circle and close them shut using a fork to score the edges. Place them on a baking sheet, poke some holes in the top of each so they don't explode (it happens) and bake according to the package directions on the pizza crust or until they are golden brown and delicious! I served mine with some Spanish rice I got at walmart... and I was going to make a margarita, which didn't work out so well. Next time I make the empanadas, I am going to use chicken and add some corn as well! mmm.
Enjoy.

I'm Back
2,000 dirty diapers, 2 car seats, several stretch marks and a whole lot of sleepless nights has landed me right back in the blogging seat. Life is so funny.... I am reading back through my posts and how I was scared to death and dreading the upcoming birth of my second child...nearly three months later, I gasp at the thought that I have made it this far! Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful to have another bundle but it's TOUGH! I don't care what other people say... it's TOUGH... Never a moment to yourself... as I type now, I am looking at a chunky little one bouncing happily in his bouncer at my feet sucking on his hands and guessing when lunch will be. I'm tired, cranky, disheveled, hairy (that's right... try shaving when you get to have 2 mins in the shower a day!), and just plain worn out. It's a roller coaster ride of emotions, schedules, planning and just being supermom sometimes...but all in all, it's worth it. I have never been happier although it may seem different when I am cleaning yogurt off the floor, throw up off my back and running to grab my cell phone from a toddler and a curiosity for a fish tank... I am blessed to have my family and I am so thankful.

Do these people truly exist...
...or did photographers for "pregnancy" books take the two happiest people on the freaking earth and put them together for a seemlessly perfect picture that only us frazzled irritated pregnant people would catch?? I mean...seriously.... I was standing in CVS yesterday waiting on my prescription for my sinus infection (sweet!) and I was purusing the book section... first off... I didn't know they had a book section and secondly, the first book I grabbed was a "pregnancy journal" of some sort. Here are the annoying and irritating things that jumped out first and foremost to me:
1) the woman on the front was so peaceful looking and happy... she was like 19 months preggo and was completely content with being a mammoth, or so she appeared
2) I skipped past the part about pre-conception... yeah I know how you get preggo and ended up on the page where the man and the woman stand-ins were in a full fledged romantic yet blissful hug swooning over the fact that the 19 month pregnant woman was finally going to give birth.... Okay... as exciting as my pregnancy was the first time, I don't ever remember Jerry and I ever embracing that way or acting that excited. Call my cynical but I just don't think it happens. Not to mention, at 19 months preggo touching is the last thing you want considering the fact that touching was the thing that got you to 19 months preggo, visions of your feet and epidurals dancing in your "fluffy" head.
3) The healthy eating part was completely skipped as I looked at the 40 count bag of pizza rolls sitting in my cart.
4) and finally... but certainly the most important... there was a section for dads to first read and then journal... this made me grin. Jerry would never ever do this for me. That would require some sort of act of God himself... it's just odd. Some men may journal and read about their coming child, which I am very jealous of, but in reality, most men won't. It's the woman's job to prepare and be excited, to be pregnant with that sweet baby, to get everything packed and cleaned.... and the men are there to basically drive you to the hospital when your water breaks.
My name was called by the perky pharmacist and I vowed to never touch another stupid pregnancy book again. It put me in a bad mood which is definitely easy these days considering I am 7 months pregnant and feel completely alone and that no one understands and the people in those books make me want to hurle for the 19th time.
I am excited about having this baby, don't get me wrong, but I am just not "over the moon giddy let's all hug and swoon and journal" kind of excited. For some reason, I am dreading it. Not the baby part, the having two children part. The being "completely and utterly a mother for the rest of my life and nothing more" part. The frumpy housewife look, the fighting part, the sick children at the same time part, marriage might fall apart part... it's the truth and being 7 months pregnant makes you start to wonder and dread some things. I sound like a horrible mother, but honestly, I know that some of you mothers out there have gone through the same fears and apprehensions I am going through. I didn't have one fear with my first, but this second is sending me to Worriesville without a map.
